1) You must be 13 years of age or older to join.
That's just to keep us in accordance with Proboards Terms of Service. If we find out you're younger, you will be asked to leave until you are of proper age to be here.
2) No Mary Sues, self-inserts, or crossovers allowed.
If you are not sure whether your character is a Sue, take this test. You may want a neutral party to help, since it can be hard to see Sue-ish traits in your own character. Also, a self-insert is not necessarily a direct transfer of yourself into the game-- a character who has a high number of traits in common with you (especially coupled with traits you wish you had) may be a self-insert. Likewise, crossover characters are not necessarily direct transfers-- sharing a number of obvious traits with a character from another fandom may also count. Anyone found doing these things may have her/his character taken away, or be asked to make changes.
3) No God-moding or Metagaming.
Write only your own actions, and let others decide how their charas react. Base your reactions on others' words and actions, not thoughts and intentions.
4) No-one is invincible.
Even if your chara is legitimately very tough, let him take some damage once in a while-- it'll help keep him humble.
5) Your first powered character must be a new manifest.
Rare exceptions to that may be made to experienced RPers, if it is important to the plot that the chara be good with his/her powers already. Ask an admin for approval.
6) You may only have one character to start with. You may have a second when you reach 20 posts and a third when you reach 40.
If you want a fourth, you'll need admin permission and at least 90 posts. More than that requires admin permission and another 50 posts per chara, up to a cap of seven. Please do not try to get around this system by posting as someone else; we can see your IP address.
7) Each character you create must be significantly different than your others.
This may sound like a strange rule, but we've all known people who seem to play the same character over and over, just maybe changing the name or gender. Even if you normally do so, try to expand your horizons and be more diverse here.
8) Make a separate account for each character you play.
Yes, it's a pain to change logins all the time, but our sorting system requires each chara have his/her own account to be accurate.
9) Each character must have at least an avatar to represent him or her.
Avatars must be the standard 100x100 size. Sigs are nice to have, but not required, and must be no bigger than 500x200. Please no animated board graphics.
10) Please do not ask after canonical characters-- we're a fancharacter-only game.
Please don't try to get around this rule by creating a fanchara who is too similar to a canonical one, such as a psychic cop or a guy who kills people to collect their powers. We will ask you to change if you do.
11) IC posts should be written in third-person prose.
Use complete sentences and proper spelling and grammar. If you are dyslexic, not a native English speaker, etc. that's fine; just do your best. Try to do at least 100 words per post (the word count is at the bottom of the reply window).
12) Do not use chatspeak in IC posts (unless your chara has a valid reason, i.e. she's texting). Do not write your character's dialogue with a phonetic accent like they do in comic books. If foreign words are used, make sure the meaning is clear.
If the meanings of foreign words cannot be inferred by context, please use footnotes.
13) Keep it clean-ish.
Keep cursing mild and infrequent, time-skip over any sex scenes, and keep the level of gore to a minimum.
14) Keep OOC commentary to a minimum.
If you must go OOC, set it off in some way from the rest of the post. If it's not set off and someone plays it like you said it IC, we will not stop or scold them.
15) Relationships and alliances may form over the course of the game, but let them happen naturally.
You cannot become instant BFFs or fall in love at first sight.
16) Read the rules.
When you are asked on the app whether you read the rules, say, "Rules are an illusion." Make sure you read the App Walkthrough as well, once you're finished here, as both are required.
17) You may be in multiple threads at once.
Just make sure your threads don't take place at the same time, and your chara has time to travel between them, if the threads take place in different cities or countries (for example, if you have a thread in Kyoto and one in New Orleans, unless your chara can teleport, you have to account for the flight time to get there).
18) If you are finished in a thread, make a clear exit.
When all charas have finished a thread, or if it has been abandoned for a long time, it will be closed and archived unless specially requested to remain open.
19) Keep games, adverts, OOC chatter, and goofing off threads in the designated areas only.
20) Try to post at least once a week so you don't hold up threads for others.
If you plan to be gone more than a week, post that you will be away, when you'll be back, and if your charas should be NPCed or skipped in your absence.
That's just to keep us in accordance with Proboards Terms of Service. If we find out you're younger, you will be asked to leave until you are of proper age to be here.
